The usual portrayal of South Los Angeles is often very negative, and no good thing comes out of this area. The truth is that the community’s people are decent, law-abiding citizens with jobs, careers, families, and aspirations of having parity with other urban communities. Vermont Village Community Development Corporation (VVCDC) holds on to the vision that the people of South Los Angeles deserve a thriving commercial corridor that will provide health and vitality to the community. Over the past (29) years, VVCDC has kept its vision for community revitalization, specifically the Vermont Corridor, alive through its founder, Dr. Betty Price. This summary will provide insight into our non-profit organization’s innovative approach to community building and partnerships. Vermont Village Community Development Corporation will create a working prototype to bring its vision to life. VVCDC has offices nestled in Crenshaw Christian Center (CCC). Leaving the grounds of CCC, just south and north of 79th and Vermont, there are vast development opportunities. The current synergy for development in the community is Vermont, between 84th Street and Manchester Ave to the South, boarding school for students and teachers, an MTA plaza, and other housing and commercial developments. It took 31 years and eminent domain proceedings, conducted by the County of Los Angeles. It’s nestled next door to a 220,000 square foot 4-story, steel frame concrete building, erected at 83 & 84 street on Vermont with a 900 plus car-parking structure. The estimated $90 million Los Angeles County Administration Building has stimulated much discussion about the future of South Los Angeles and how to improve the area’s economy with suitable complementary and functional developments. Through our advocating process, we pursued steps to achieving these development goals and objectives to perpetuate growth and prosperity in our community. With a community planning prototype, the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director, the Community Organizer, and a host of volunteers worked to transform this community. We are all committed to improving the quality of life for residents in the Vermont/Manchester area. To achieve this goal, the organization must continue flourishing by influencing officials with the vision, resources, and economic growth South Los Angeles needs.

Can we count on your support?

Sincerely,
